    | No strong feelings either way.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course for the teacher and if you have a genuine passion for chemistry. Mr. Hilgendorf is an excellent teacher, however, the course is quite fast paced and complex. It is very easy to fall behind.

    Course highlights:

I realized how in depth and never ending science truly is. This course shows you how the tiniest of molecules are quite incredible.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

In order to succeed in this course, you need a true passion for chemistry and a lot of perseverence.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

AP chemistry is an extremely difficult class that requires an abundance of work in and out of classroom. However, AP chemistry is an exceedingly rewarding class. Not only is the material incredibly interesting to learn, but AP chemistry can be applied to all aspects of daily life. The information presented in this course can and will be useful in the student’s adult life.

    Course highlights:

AP chemistry requires an abundance of hands on learning due to the required labs. A student must complete a required number of labs to finish the course. As a result, a student can expect to utilize a great deal of laboratory equipment such as a spectrometer and a crucible; a student will conduct experiments such as determining the percent carbon and/or water in a hydrocarbon as well as measuring the absorbance of certain liquid based on its wavelength. While taking AP chemistry, I learned how simple processes/reactions, such as the boiling of water, each have a unique and special reason as why they occur. Whether due to a substance’s physical or chemical structure or the amount of energy required for the reaction to occur, all reactions have a reason to occur.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

Advice I would give to students considering taking this course would be to dedicate time after class to studying for this subject. Receiving a score of a five on this exam is very difficult and can only be achieved through hard work. A student should prepare a plan of organization that divides their time between classes in order to ensure that time is spent on studying for chemistry. In addition, I recommend creating a document with notes from class to make the studying process easier and quicker since all the information is in place. Most importantly, a student must complete the work given on time to not fall behind in class because an abundance of material must be learned in a short period of time.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

In my 10th grade of high school, I had very low grades in chemistry. When I entered the 12th grade, I was worried because I knew I wanted to major in biology and I had to commit to doing chemistry for the rest of my life. Mr. Hilgendorf is an amazing teacher. He has taught me everything possible for chemistry possible. I feel as though I am ready to tackle chemistry in college and it's all because of his criticizing and tough work.

    Course highlights:

I feel as though I am ready to tackle chemistry in college and it's all because of his criticizing and tough work. He has taught me everything possible for chemistry possible. The course was difficult but I managed to pass with a B plus in his class. I learned to not judge a book by its cover because organic chemistry is just another complicated atom.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

STUDY! Studying will always help you and do the homework that is assigned to you, it will him. Once you do those 2 things you should be fine. Watching videos will only confuse you more so listen to your professor.
