    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course because the professor takes the time to make sure all the students understand the material before she moves on to the next topic.

    Course highlights:

We learned how to name alkanes, alkenes, and alkynes. Along with learning the chemical reactions that they can go through and the different ways you can synthesize them. For instance you can synthesize an alkyne into and alkane or vice versa.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Read through all the materials at your disposal and go to office hours if you do not understand a concept. A lot of the concepts taught are difficult when you first learn them like synthesis. Sometimes you just need it to be explained to you a second time.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This is a great course that's really the meat of Chemistry. I took it during the 8-week summer session, which is not recommended unless you're absolutely 100% committed to Organic for two full months of summer.

    Course highlights:

Carbon is everything (at least in this course), Fisher projections make life a lot easier, and I'm not a fan of boat conformations.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

Ask as many questions as possible; this course moves quickly, even in a normal 16 week semester. If you don't understand something, do whatever you can for clarification. This is definitely a course where you can only get by if you're proactive from the very beginning.
