    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

    This is a broad introductory course to Computer Science. that covers hardware functions and architecture, theory of computation, programming(Java), and algorithms. However, a majority of the class time is spent Java programming and algorithms.

    Course highlights:

    Through this course, I learnt that complex computer programs are created using very simple mathematical and scientific concepts and methods(algorithms). Problems to be solved by programs are analyzed and broken into small manageable parts which can be solved easily. The individually solved parts are then put together to achieve the desired result

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

    To succeed in this course, which is allocated 4 credit hours, I recommend at least 12 hours of practice per week, using every available resource such as the internet, books, and the tutoring centers and facilities . Students should try to get the book, " JAVA Introduction to Problem Solving and Programming. 7th Edition. " The book is also accessible in e-text when one registers for MyProgrammingLab. MyProgrammingLab is an indispensable resource which has video notes, e-text, and exercises, which - when used properly- greatly enhances success in this course. A lot of homework assignments also require use of MyProgrammingLab. It is very important that students try solving every assignment by themselves, no matter how complex, as the main purpose of the course is to prepare students to excel in this field which requires constant practice, research and problem-solving.
