    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This is a very challenging course, many students dropped. If you need CHEM 142, take it with Dr. Novak. His lectures don't drag on, he's actually kinda funny sometimes. And he's really cool about helping if you have trouble with an assignment. The exams are tough, but he lets you use a 4x6 note card as a cheat sheet.

    Course highlights:

I've attended other schools, but the labs at ECC are immaculate! I learned all of the fundamentals of Chemistry.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Read the textbook. Pay very close attention to VSEPR. If you want an A, consider taking an introductory chem course first.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This course provides a hands-on introduction to chemistry. Chemistry 142 touches on subjects that you covered in high school, but goes deeper into the "why" behind them. It is challenging and rewarding.

    Course highlights:

This course helped me understand basic formulas used in chemistry and helped me understand the organization of the periodic table. In the lab, I learned the proper way to use many different types of laboratory equipment and how to safely use and dispose of chemicals.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

Practice, practice, practice. In this class one cannot practice too much. The professor provided multiple packets for students to study at their leisure, and those who utilized these practice problems achieved excellent scores and mastered the material.
