    | Probably wouldn’t recommend.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Chem 111 is challenging but Dr. Levinger was a terrible professor for the class and I would avoid taking her section. The class itself is frustrating but is a requirement for many majors.

    Course highlights:

I learned a lot more in depth stuff about general chemistry.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

Study everyday and do the readings.

    | Probably wouldn’t recommend.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I wouldn't recommend if you don't have to take it, but MacFarland is the best teacher, so if you have to take it, just figure out a schedule for yourself, and just know that it's a weed out class.

    Course highlights:

I really only learned how to prepare my self for the tests and problems.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

Set up a schedule to have time for all of the programs (ALEKS, SmartWork, Reading Reflections, Learning Journals, etc.), and use the practice tests to study for the exams! Also, go to office hours and TiLT for help!

    | Would recommend.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The coursework is difficult and you need to be prepared for 10+ hours of self-guided learning a week. The tests are ridiculous, but if you study and keep on top of your homework, you will be okay. Pay attention in class, take notes, read your book, and check out Khan Academy online.

    Course highlights:

Dr. MacFarland is a good teacher considering the 260+ students per lecture hour and she will give you a lot of cheesy tips to remember things by; those really helped me. I feel like I was overloaded on information for one semester, but I kept up okay.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

Stay on task, keep up, and do all of the homework/recitation/clicker points. If you bomb the tests, you can still pull a C without a curve if you're putting in the time and effort with everything else.
