    | Would highly recommend.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

AP Biology was my first chance to dive into the world of living organisms. In this class, we explored how sunlight is converted to energy, the evolution and diversification of the animal kingdom, human genes, and more! I found many aspects of the course to be interesting and applicable - I went on a hike a few weeks ago and found my knowledge useful in identifying various types of plants and animals.

    Course highlights:

The best part of this course was the labwork. Every week, we would carry out one or two labs that were relevant to what we were learning. In one of my favorite labs, we inserted genes into a colony of bacteria, granting them antibacterial resistance. In the end, we created a plate of microbial cells that glowed bright blue.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Constant work is needed. Cramming is not an option for this class. By reading a small section of the textbook each day, you can quickly and efficiently study for upcoming tests.

    | No strong feelings either way.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

My attitude towards the class was a mix of both positive and negative. From the one perspective, I felt like having Mrs. Uji as a teacher, who always came to teach the class with a cheerful attitude, helped to elevate some stress from the class. On the other hand, the class itself was very rigorous with its classwork as each week I would read a range from 35-60 pages depending on how many chapters were assigned in a week. This is a fast-paced class so I would be cautious about procrastinating too much.

    Course highlights:

There were moments from this class that I enjoyed, such as listening to the PCR song multiple times and having those two days where we just took a break from learning Bio and had a party. When it came to chapter material contents, I found some new information pretty interesting like transmutation.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Definitely do not leave the AP Bio chapter readings until Sunday night, because attempting to cram in 50 pages of information in one night does not always work. Every Monday was test day and every Friday was quiz day, so act accordingly as to how you want to divide the chapter readings by the time these two days come around. As well, there are weeks where lab essays occur on the same day as the chapter quizzes on Fridays, so be aware of that. Since test days have FRQs along with the MCs, definitely check out AP Central to help you better prepare for what kind of FRQs could possibly be on the tests.
