The professor made it interesting and he had a blog.

    Advice for students:

If you have a full time job and family you have to make the time to do online course work. Set aside a specific time to do the homework and reading for this class.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Dr. Holt is a very insightful and intelligent man that has a lot to offer in the way of improving writing and research techniques. The course focuses on argumentative writing and allows students to choose their own topics. This adds a fun spin on the course load, and allows individual students to have a voice. It is not an easy class, but a very beneficial one that will teach students how to work and teach writing techniques that will be very beneficial in future courses.

    Course highlights:

Writing is not enjoyable for me, but well worth it! It always feels good to finish a paper I know I have spent a lot of time on and anticipate the professors response to it. There is an open class debate on a highly relevant topic (it changes each semester). There is a presentation at the end of class on the final paper. I learned a lot about arguments and the components and requirements of an effective one. People argue everyday, and it is important to be accurate and credible in presentation in order to achieve the best results in any situation. There are also many other components to an argument that can persuade or dissuade an audience depending on the use. The course reviews logical fallacies, and how to find credible sources so that no argument is hinged on false logic or information.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Plan ahead, be prepared, and be on time. Put the necessary work into each paper, and review it several times before turning it in. Make sure that you have a complete understanding of both sides of the topic you are arguing.
