Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

In IB Spanish, we are encouraged to speak in Spanish the entire period throughout the year. Communicating together in a different language not only makes us vulnerable to mistakes, but brings us closer to a culture unfamiliar to us. We become more well-rounded individuals by immersing ourselves into a language which has different "cuts in the language continuum". Perspective becomes an interesting aspect when considering the power of understanding a language outside of our own.

    Course highlights:

I have learned a lot about Latin American culture. I understand that there are different sects of Spanish that go largely unrecognized. Americans are very familiar with Mexican heritage due to the large Mexican immigrant population. The media has produced images about these people which skew our perception about Spanish as a language and the culture it originates from. I appreciate Spanish as more than a language that is spoken, rather, I see it as a way of life outside of our own. Spanish comes with versatile ideology and a new way of looking at the world.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Do the assignments and participate in class. The assignments are very minimal so they are a huge part of your grade. Participating in class will give you the practice necessary to be able to execute your knowledge on tests and in real life situations.
