    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This course was absolutely fascinating. I learned so much about a part of the country that I was never able to visit until recently. It teaches you about the settlement of the west and how this has shaped our American consciousness throughout history from that point to the present.

    Course highlights:

The highlights were getting first hand stories from Dr. Conover. His knowledge and extensive travels throughout the West was an incredible addition to the course. He was able to give insights into a sub-culture that is foreign to many East Coast Americans. I learned detailed geography of the West, but my favorite part was learning about the Battle of Little Big Horn. The book he had us read became one of my favorite books I have ever read. If for nothing else, I would take the course just to discuss that book again.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Always do the readings. Take notes. Be very thorough with your essays on the exams and try to make great connections among themes.
