    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The course overall highly improves analytical skills and exposes you to different type of literature of different eras and topics. Everything from transcendentalism, the civil war, realism, and eccentric topics such as nuclear weapons and dumpster diving. Vocabulary and grammar are highly emphasized as well, as words you probably never heard of are taught to you on a constant weekly basis.

    Course highlights:

Notable highlights were powerpoint presentations of famous speeches which composed of analysis and meaning. I learned what is expected of me on the AP exam, and the many techniques an author may use such as parallelism, structure, or esoteric allusions. I also learned lots of vocabulary, and how to effectively use it in a sentence. My essays also improved as I learned certain structures and techniques that may be to your benefit.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Your English skills must have a fairly solid background, as this class mostly enhances them and presents new techniques. Be prepared to discuss in class, which keeps in check that you read and understand the techniques an author uses. Lastly, always use review assignment to your advantage, and friends are always a great resource to brainstorm ideas. Groupwork is also highly encouraged, so get involved!
