    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This course is very special. Dr. Joseph introduced us to the history of literary criticism and theory from Russian Formalism, through structuralism and post-structuralism, to contemporary modes of theory such as Queer theory, and Critical Race Theory.

    Course highlights:

The highlights for me were in the section dedicated to studying Roland Barthes' work Mythologies, in which the theorists indicts ideology, and elaborates a very interesting theory of language and mythology.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Read every assigned text. If you fail to read through an assigned text, even if it presents a struggle, you will be lost in the lecture, and subsequently lost during the assignments. Take clean and organized notes as well, as they will come in handy when applying different theories to the essay assignments.
