Pretty easy, overall.
I absolutely recommend this course for those who are interesting in a beginner music course. Professor Garry was very informative, and he made it very easy to take notes in class. It introduced me to many new types of music, and I thoroughly enjoyed it.
In class, we discussed music throughout history. We delved into many different genres of music, ranging from operas to symphonies to ballets. Also discussed were many parallels between music and significant historical events, including the Age of Enlightenment and The Roaring Twenties. A more careful examination of music structure was encouraged, as well as chances to exhibit any previous musical knowledge, such as experience on an instrument such as the piano.

Advice for students:
Plan in advance to write about two research papers during the length of the course; you will be required to see a live concert for each paper, so make sure to start researching early; there is plenty of time to complete this in the time given, however. There are 5 exams in the semester class, and each exam includes a "Listening" portion. The best way to study for this is to learn to identify the beginnings of the given songs using tell-tale, unique signatures. You will also need to know the genre and composers of each song.
