Physical logical and wireless layers
The physical layer acts as a bridge between network devices.(see physical layer notes 1)
TYpes of connections
Wired- a physical connection to a switch using a cable
Wireless(Intergrated service Router ISR)
In ethernet network devices are connected to the same, shared media. Ethernet us to run as a
half-duplex topology; this meant that all devices recieved every frame transmitted. Because
the amount of info couldent be processed correctly MAC addresses w
Most widely used lan technology today.
Operates in the data link layer and the physical layer,
defined in the IEEE 802.2 and 802.3 standerds.
Supports data bandwidths of:

Ethernet Frame Fields
The minimum Ethernet frame size is 64 bytes and the maximum is 1518 bytes.
This includes all bytes from the Destination MAC Address field through the Frame Check Sequence (FCS) field. The Preamble field is not included when describ
MAC constitutes the lower sublayer of the data link layer.
MAC is implemented by hardware, typically in the computer NIC.
The specifics are listed in the IEEE 802.3 standards.
Supports ethernet technology by using CSMA/CD and CSMA/CA
switch>enable "Turns on Privileged EXEC" switch#*
switch#configure terminal "Changes from Privileged EXEC to Global config, vice versa" switch(config)#
switch(config)#interface vlan 1 "changes from Global config to sub-config modes" switch(config-if)#
The Physical layer
Acts a means of transport for bits that make up a
data link layer frame across network media.
This layer takes a complete frame and encodes it as
a series of signals to be sent over local media,
the encoded bits are then recieved by
