The course involved a research work on the impact of the labor laws between my country and any other country. It also involved researching the latest trends or best practices related to the major functions of Strategic Human Resource Management.
The following were the highlights: 1. Human resource management, the organizational life-cycle and stakeholder perspectives and how they can facilitate organizational success. 2. The core functions of human resource management. 3. What human resource professionals do to help create successful organizations. 4. Important labour trends that are affecting organizations and their human resource practices. 5. How effective human resource management requires a combination of strategic and functional perspectives. 6. How various laws protect workers against discrimination with respect to ethnicity, race, gender, age, and disabilities. 7. The concept of affirmative action. 8. The laws and practices concerning employee safety and workers' compensation. 9. Specific practices that can help an organization comply with legal guidelines and promote good health and safety practices. 10. How overall HR strategy guides recruiting practices. 11. How the key elements of human resource planning. 12. The important characteristics and search patterns of different types of people looking for jobs. 13. Characteristics of organizations that attract recruits. 14. The various recruiting sources, their strengths and weaknesses, as well as their linkage with strategic recruiting practices. 15. To succeed, my approach was as follows: 1. Understanding the underlying human resources strategic management principles 2. Comparing the labor laws between the two countries, Zambia and Zimbabwe, and evaluating the impact of the laws on the labor force 3. Giving an independent opinion on the subject matter.
