    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

As a foreign student, taking IB Enlgih HL is almost impossible for me. However, Ms. Mollo really dedicate and is always willing to assist students. Also, this course would definitely open your vision and take you on a wonderful experience. I never regretted taking this course because I grew through my experiences, struggles and dedications. I felt more mature, intelligent, seeking and thirsty for the nourishment from literature. As I come in contact with a new topic or literary work, I learned to savor every serendipitous opportunity to enrich my knowledge. By perceiving my teacher and classmates' perspectives, I was able to enlarge my interpretation and to have a deeper understanding on each of the literary works.

    Course highlights:

The highlight of this course despite all the seasonal parties before the end of each semester is encountering the topic of Existentialism. Our class was assigned to read Albert Camus' The Stranger, one of the most popular novel that an expert on Existentialism would recommend. Even though I did not fully agree with Existentialism but I found that this topic is universally relative. Existentialism is a philosophy that human is constantly searching for the reason of human existence and the meaning of life. Furthermore, this philosophy can be universally connected to Shakespeare's Hamlet during Hamlet's most famous soliloquy: "To be or not to be." Moreover, Existentialism is even relative to John Donne's many poem which we are recently working on in the class. Every topic that we have learned in class assist us in becoming more intelligent and more universally well-rounded.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Indisputably, this course is both higher level and is graded according to IB standard. I dedicate my full effort into all the assignment and class-participation. Consequently, the more effort I put into my work, the more I gain and grow through the process. It is difficult but it is never impossible. If you want to be able to pass this course with a good grade, you definitely have to participate because the more you speak, you become more familiarize with the topic. Also, forming a study group with your classmates is a must to better understand the literary works. It is through many other classmates' advice and opinion that allows me to take into account of the different, possible point of views or interpretations. Furthermore, it is important to always "read out loud" and to check all the writing before turning in the assignment. Even though it is an extra step but it did help me and well-prepared me for my future attitude and quality of work.
