    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This class was amazingly challenging, easily the most challenging course I've ever taken. It taught me so many lessons on how much time should be spent studying, the importance of having helpful friends, and putting pride aside to ask for extra help ( a lot of it).

    Course highlights:

The highlights of this course were all based around the fact you were taking an advanced chemistry course! Labs were often inquiry based, requiring you to take the intended purpose of the lab and build a procedure to meet those ends. It felt like I was a chemist when we delved into the best way to separate solids, identifying a certain substance using lab equipment, and seeing the wavelengths that different substances made in order to calculate concentration. I learned that even the fun stuff was definitely not easy by any means, and how to accept criticism as a pathway to growth.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Although I've said some pretty daunting stuff, I still crawled out with an A both semesters! If you want to take this class and do well in it, you have to respect the time and effort that it takes. Be resilient, for the first few weeks might feel like you are being completely wrecked. This class teaches you so many things, not just about chemistry, that really put life and school in perspective. AP Chemistry is no cake walk, so respect the fact that it takes a lot more than sitting in class to really absorb the information.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

AP Chemistry has a rigorous schedule and is a great challenge. It goes far beyond college preparation chemistry and even honors in content and lab work. The teacher has a good sense of humor, but the tests are not curved.

    Course highlights:

I learned how to be clear, concise, and complete in my responses to scientific essay questions. There were also quite a few exciting laboratory demonstrations that utilized fire and small explosions.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Do the summer work! Do anything you can to memorize polyatomics, formulas, solubility rules, and metric conversions. Be on top of your homework and actually learn the content - do not just copy it. If you do not understand what is going on in class ASK A QUESTION. There is a 99% chance that you are not the only person who doesn't know what is going on.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

It is a great, challenging class and Mr. Tanner is a excellent teacher. He is always there to help you if you need it. This class is also very difficult though and you need to understand and be able to apply every concept if you are going to want to pass.

    Course highlights:

We played a lot of fun games and talked about a lot of interesting Chemistry topics including some that weren't even solved yet.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Make sure you do a lot of extra credit all through out the year and don't even think about using or losing those bathroom passes.
