Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This course isn't only for those who aspire to work in the medical profession. Learning more about your body and how it works can contribute to how you take of yourself and will teach you to appreciate the amazing functions your body has. I gained an overall understanding biology, genetics, and disease. This course is also fantastic for learning laboratory skills and interpret data. Overall, I took this course expecting to memorize a plethora of various terms but instead I was taught how all of my body systems work together to keep an organism alive.

    Course highlights:

This course is more than learning about organs, muscles or cells. You will be expected to grasp just how all these components play a part in the human body. I learned that the body interacts not only within organs but on a cellular and molecular level as well. I also gained a deeper understanding of digestion, reproduction, muscle stimulation and bone composition; these were all topics I was completely oblivious about in the past. All in all, there is way more to the Anatomy than I expected, at one point of the year I was researching various diseases and defects, my teacher also opened my eyes to topics such as genetic engineering , cloning, malaria, and ebola. There were times where we were expected to debate over some controversial ideas which helped a lot in my communication and presenting skills. In fact, this course contributed to my career decision as a physical therapist, which gave a general feel of what I was to expect in the future, and I loved it. By the end of the year, you will be able to demonstrate a variety of skills which will push you to go above and beyond in whatever endeavors you pursue.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Although anatomy goes beyond just learning many organs and muscles, that is still a major component of the course as well as a large part of what you see on exams. So make sure you create many flashcards and study them every day, that is truly the best way to retain that information. Studying your vocabulary only enough to pass an upcoming test is not a sure way to succeed, just set aside 15 minutes every day and study them instantly so you can pass that final with flying colors. Apart from that, don't be afraid to be wrong! The human body is a complicated thing and you're bound to make many mistakes before you understand the complex functions and chains of genetics, enzymes and more! You're the best bet is to give it your all and make sure you go to tutoring before you even think about brushing off a tough subject.
