    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend the class because I think it is a great way to get the basic knowledge of biology for the rest of the upper division classes. The professor goes into detail about the different processes such as photosynthesis, kreb cycle, and fermentation.

    Course highlights:

I learned a lot about DNA and RNA and the way the cells work in our body.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

I think it is important to record the lectures, read before class, and rewrite all your notes.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This class is the introduction to biology. Understanding the basics of biochemisrty, cell morphology and fiction, and genetics, is not only fun but so important in progressing in further biology courses.

    Course highlights:

After completion of Bio 1080 I gained a vast amount of information on cell function and morphology. I learned the basics of how cells communicate and respond to certain stimulus. What goes on in the cell depends on the parts of it that each have a certain role. For example when we learned central dogma, we understood the flow of genetic information from DNA to a protein and the steps in between this process. Eukaryotes have a membrane bounded nucleus where DNA replication take place, and after the DNA replicates, if needed, it will transcribe into a MRNA strand and then be exported through nuclear pores into the cytosol. There it will be attacked by ribosomal sub units where protein synthesis takes place. Understand this concept has helped me so much with genetics and microbiology. Another awesome highlight was lab, because lab you get yo hands on do what you learn in lecture. This helps embed information displayed in lecture.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Read the book, and study the notes after reading This will help in understating concepts. Ask the teacher if you're confused about anything because there's a lot of information. The amount of studying will determine your grade.
