Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

AP Chemistry is exciting in the way that there is always another piece to the puzzle. Students learn how interconnected all the forces in the world are as well as the numbers that hide behind every function in life.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of the course are the labs that students are able to conduct. Each student learns critical researching skills as well as problem-solving tactics when working with teams in compiling lab reports. Applying book skills to real-life reactions is a valuable experience.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

It is useful to have a strong math background when considering this course but online videos and textbooks provide simple explanations. AP Review books or crash courses can be helpful but students should also take advantage of after school tutoring.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I strongly recommend taking this class because it focuses on the intricate concepts and theories of chemistry and the explanations behind each one. After completing the course, your understanding and perspective of chemistry will change drastically in a positive aspect.

    Course highlights:

My favorite part of AP Chemistry was stoichiometry. Previously, I had taken regular chemistry and was only taught the basic concepts of stoichiometry. In AP Chemistry, I was able to learn about the more intricate and difficult version of stoichiometry and it is an extremely helpful topic/concept to learn.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

If you plan on taking this course, be sure to complete all your work on time and start preparing for your AP exam early on. Make sure not to procrastinate and always ask your teacher questions if you need any clarifications.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The class goes even deeper into the basics of Chemistry. With labs that challenge the way one thinks compels students to go beyond the textbook instructions, this course allows students more independence and interactive experience with the concepts that were taught in first year chemistry.

    Course highlights:

This course builds upon the foundation that had been established the previous year. Having a primary focus on the application of the concepts, students would, like I have, learn how to think critically and how to problem solve with the materials they have in front of them. Even if the course appears tough at the beginning, the most important lesson learned from those who decide to stay is that perseverance and determination often allows one to overcome obstacles he or she did not believe they could otherwise.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

At the beginning, this course can be rigorous and frustrating. However, if one gives more than just the necessary effort and sets aside at least an hour each week just to review concepts from before, this class will become entertaining and enjoyable. Participation and your daily work are both influential factors on your final grade, so do not be afraid to raise your hand once in a while.
