Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Under the tutelage of Mrs.Dershem, my ability to analyze literary works and discuss them, expanded exponentially.

    Course highlights:

I enjoyed studying Shakespeare 's Hamlet. It was a complex play, but Mrs.Dershem broke down the intricate themes of the play and allowed us students to understand it.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Always keep up with the reading on whatever book the class is studying. Do not wait on essay deadlines. Do the essays immediately.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Although it is a rigorous course, the way Mrs. Dershem teaches IB English HL1 will prepare you extremely effectively for your senior year IB Exams. She always gives you great ideas for IOPs and always helps you practice writing to the point where it's drilled into your head so much that it will be impossible for you to fail as long as you pay attention. As long as you respect Mrs. Dershem and her rules, you will have a great time in this class and you will be well prepared for college and beyond.

    Course highlights:

Reading "The House of the Spirits" and learning about the life of Isabel Allende were the most interesting highlights of this course, as they truly allow you to have fun and apply your knowledge from 10th grade AP World History to these lessons. The book is full of drama and unexpected twists which make for great class discussions.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Always keep your notebook updated and never fall behind.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This is an incredible course. It is a required course for students on the path to getting the IB Diploma, but one of the best parts of the path. Both the teachers are wonderful people who put their all into their courses, and always know what they're talking about.

    Course highlights:

This course helped me analyse literature in ways that I had not been able to in the past. It opened my mind to the views of other people, which is something I think should be required for all courses in high school, but is seriously lacking all around the country, in general. Also, Running in the Family is a required reading, but was amazing. 10/10 would recommend the read.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Take time to analyse poems. They may only be ten lines long, but you could write a whole book on a single stanza. You think I'm joking.
