Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This course is great if you wish to learn more about the environment and how you can help minimize your own environmental footprint. Be prepared to learn both in and outside of the classroom as we like to dig deep into our curriculum (literally!).

    Course highlights:

As rising college students, we were given the opportunity to grow our own garden and use the produce we grew to make meals. This was an extremely valuable project for not only did it teach us green gardening skills, but it also inspired us to cook for ourselves more regularly.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Be prepared to do lots of reading, as there are weekly quizzes. Make sure that you take notes on everything you read, and be able to connect big ideas to one another. This class is a lot of fun, but you need to be able to think outside of the box!

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This class is very involved and hands on! You will never have a dull moment. This class is great for someone who loves to get their hands dirty, because there are many labs and service requirements that involve working in the outdoors.

    Course highlights:

I learned a lot about the earth's different systems and how they work together, and how everything in the environment correlates with each other. I learned a lot about sustainable living and how I could make a difference in the world around me.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Do not underestimate it! A lot of people take AP environmental science because they think it will be easy, but there is a lot of complex thinking and acting involved in this course. Be ready to learn a lot and get your hands dirty while doing it.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This course is very unique from different sciences in that it combines many different subjects. You must use knowledge of biology, chemistry, and economics. During this class, information is constantly changing, so you are constantly analyzing different events that are happening in present time. It also opens your owns to a whole new perspective on this world, the people in it, and politics.

    Course highlights:

The highlight of this course was the school garden. Students had to build planting boxes, plant and maintain their plants, as well as cook meals out of their plants. We learned to be innovative and use our resources wisely, even if they were scarce. We also were presented with the opportunity to inform other people about the benefits (economical, environmental, and social) of planting a home garden. Lastly, as a class, we cooked meals for each other and celebrated our products.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

The first couple weeks are the best! The teachers focus on games and challenges to represent the the of work you will be doing all year. Be ready for a lot of work and reading. Usually the topics are fairly easy, but the amount of information may be overwhelming. After a couple weeks you will adjust and once activities start, you will almost forget this is an academic class.
