    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Thus far, all my classes have been generally easy. This class was a challenge for me. It's a great refresher of high school chemistry. The course is challenging and keeps you on your toes.

    Course highlights:

This course taught me a lot. The first being that I am much smarter than I like to give myself. This was a tough course and I managed well for never being good in science. The lab portion of this class was more fun. I enjoyed the part where we mixed chemicals and put them in the flame of a Bunsen burner to determine what chemical it was.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

I would definitely recommend future students to give themselves plenty of study time. I took this in the summer, so it was a much faster pace than normal, but I'm sure it would be just as challenging on a regular semester. If possible, refresh yourself on the material.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

If science is not in your thing, then this class just may not be the one for you. It is a lot of work inside and outside of class. You will need to put plenty of time on the side for studying.

    Course highlights:

The lab work is really fun. One of my favorites was working with chemiluminescence. You get to see what chemicals create light and what chemicals make the light last longer. Once you get the hang of the chemical combinations, the rest is fun play.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

If possible, take any sort of pre-chem class you possibly can. It has been 6 years for me since I have taken any chemistry and I know it is affecting my performance in class. Many of my classmates I have talked to that have taken some sort of pre-chem class get along much better than I do.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

For most in my major, it is required, but for those who are in place where they can choose between Chemistry and another natural science to satisfy their needs, I recommend Summer Chem class because it is a much more holistic experience than that of a regularly scheduled semester class. You get the opportunity to form relationships with the students who are also giving up a summer morning to learn some chemical properties. It becomes a family setting where you learn from others failures and successes and questions and mishaps.

    Course highlights:

I loved how it was the only class I had, therefore it was the dominant thought. the hours are long, you are literally there all day. But you develop a friendship with your classmates that, in my opinion, surpasses those build in traditional semester classes. I love how interactive and investigative the labs were. The material keeps a rigorous pace, and you need to be dedicated to it to survive. looking back I am glad I chose summer chem over spring or Fall chem.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Don't slack at all. The SECOND you are confused, ask a classmate or a teacher, because once the hole is poked, the raft goes down fast in this class. Also, I would suggest that you don't miss any days, the pace is so fast, that it truly effects the rest of the semester.
