This class was tough.
Course Overview:
The course is very intense, but if the other course load is balanced, statics can be enjoyable.
Course highlights:
I am learning to do structural analysis. This is the first course that actually gets into civil engineering.
Hours per week:
3-5 hours
Advice for students:
Don't allow the assignments to build up. Complete assignments as they are assigned.
This class was tough.
Course Overview:
The course is completly different than a traditional mechanics course. You work out long problems, in Powerpoint, than you have a recitation. You struggle a lot, and are expected to work together. Statics, Deformable Solids and Dynamics are all set up the same way. They are heavy on MatLab and they expect you to know how to code well enough in order to model the behavior of systems.
Course highlights:
You feel frustrated, but every week you do learn a little more, and in the end, it all comes together. The course is heavy on using vectors.
Hours per week:
12+ hours
Advice for students:
I would not take Statics, Dynamics or Deformable Solids while having a busy semester. These classes require a lot of time for homework.
Not too easy. Not too difficult.
Course Overview:
This was a challenging course, but if one fights through homework each week they will pass.
Course highlights:
Being able to complete a 50 minute problem and then getting the right answer is a HUGE success in my eyes.
Hours per week:
6-8 hours
Advice for students:
You will go the entire semester and not feel like you know what you are doing, but by doing each problem that shows you know this material.
