Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This is the best class I have ever taken throughout my four years of high school. It allows you to write stories and poems in ways you never even knew you could do. It opens your mind and lets what you think and feel be put on paper and have amazing stories come of them.

    Course highlights:

I gained being able to have my voice be heard through poems and stories I wrote. I learned how many people could take one topic and have completely different views and opinions because no one is the same. I learned how life in general relates to writing in so many ways.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

In order to succeed in this class, all you need is an open mind, a pen, and piece of paper. You can be the worst writer in the class, but if you have an open and creative mind, I promise you Mr. Coffey will get you to be where he knows you can be. He is the best teacher and will help you to be the writer you never thought even existed. Everyone can write, some may just need a little more help along the way.

    Advice for students:

Try to focus on improving your own style of writing, not trying to copy someone else's.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Mr. Coffey's Creative Writing class challenges every student and helps them to grow by creating an accepting environment where sharing about oneself is not only encouraged by required. Everyone must share their own, often personal, writing in front of the class. The positive and honest reactions that come from the class are encouraging and help the student to become more comfortable in an often uncomfortable situation.

    Course highlights:

Mr. Coffey's astute comments on my writing guided me towards writing in a way that is natural to me, and I realized how dangerous it can be to overthink things in life, whether they are an important decision or a short story. I also learned a lot about the people around me, which gave me an appreciation for them as human beings deserving of respect.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Try to suspend your fear of sharing about yourself, and be open minded when listening to other students share their own experiences.
