    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Very rarely is there a class that forces you to learn more about yourself. When you write a character, it's only an extension of yourself, whether it's only a sliver or a fraction. You are pushed to your limits and past your breaking point- it truly taught me what it is to tell the utmost truth through a fictional character, and how truth can sound through different perspectives.

    Course highlights:

The teacher is honest with you, and that's something that students don't always get. There is no sugarcoating when going through critique, and it's not personal, it's about the work, and it makes you a better writer no matter who you are. I learned that fiction has more truth sometimes than nonfiction through the mouth of a ghost; I learned the traditional monomyth and how to twist and bend it to make it fascinating and different in the relationships between people, and I learned how to create a distinct voice for myself.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

This class isn't an easy A class; if you take it, be willing to put in the work to become a better writer and sometimes a better person. It can only benefit you in the end.

    Hours per week:

    Advice for students:

Always work during the in class writing workshops.
