    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Dr. K was fun but also knew what he was talking about. He was always willing to explain difficult concepts multiple times in different ways so that everyone understood.

    Course highlights:

This was a basic general chemistry I course. There is a lot of learning the periodic table and working with chemical equations. Also, lots of labs and learning lab techniques.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

Keep in mind when looking out the hours per week above, I took this class in a five week summer course, with 8 lecture hours and 8 lab hours per week (that doesn't include outside studying). Had I taken it in a normal course, I assume I would have spent around 8 hours a week on this class.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

While it's never easy taking a science course in the summer, if you have to I highly recommend Dr. Khemtong at Brookhaven College. I had him for Chem 1411 and he was awesome. He is very laid back and relaxed and is willing to listen to his class for feedback on the workload and pace. He also offers bonus points in the form of quizzes, which are applied directly to tests.

    Course highlights:

Basic General Chemistry I class. We learned a lot of lab procedures, stoichiometry, thermochemistry, structures, etc.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

In the summer its a five-week course. Two four hour labs and 8 hours of lecture per-week. I was working full time and pulled an A, but I also didn't sleep for five weeks. If you're strong in math and science, you'll probably be okay. If you know you're going to struggle, don't take it while working or better yet, wait until fall so you have a full semester.
