Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Professor Smeltz is a fantastic teacher, she really helps slow down the lesson and truly teach it, instead of just lecture it. The course itself is extremely helpful, but calls for quality effort.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of the course were definitely applying things from lecture to the lab, such as the calorimeter lab and learning how to calculate heat gain and loss. The concept in lecture can be slightly confusing, but applying it to lab allows for a better understanding of the equations and how they work.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

AP Chemistry in high school was a HUGE help. Many of the students who hadn't taken that course in high school struggled a little in General Chem, but if you really put in the work, and you visit your professor or GSA during office hours, it helps and it pays off in the end.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Dr. Smeltz is an awesome professor who knows her stuff AND knows how to teach it. She also is more than willing to help students during her office hours or with an appt.

    Course highlights:

Lab for this class is not the best but if you pay attention during the lectures, ask questions, and get help when you need it, you can get a lot out of the course

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

if you use yahoo answers for the homework, at least look at the math behind the answers (usually provided in yahoo answers) and understand it for the tests

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course as it starts you off right in terms of what you need to know for college level chemistry.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of the course would be the lab class itself, as well as the notes on new lessons we took in class.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Be prepared to work and devote an ample amount of time to this course. Chemistry, is a science that cannot be taken lightly and requires work to see positive results.
