Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Professor Hoffmann is an amazing teacher. She gives you so much extra credit and makes sure you understand the material. Labs are fun and she provides the book!

    Course highlights:

We went from small to large. Atom structure and how elements join. Cell structures and their intricacies. Genetics and inheritance. Technology in biology such as DNA fingerprinting. Our forensics experiment was very fun!

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Read the chapters, do all the work, come on time and pay attention. If you think you're going to struggle do the extra credit. There's one for every quiz and every test and some extra assignments she puts in.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I wouldn't recommend it. Professor Holt is completely absent from the class, except when it comes to issuing grades. The majority of your grade is based on class discussions and labs. However, 25% of your grade is a result of a midterm and final - both of which you will get no guidance, study guides, direction - nothing. He tells you to buy a text book, read the entire thing, and know everything it says because everything in the textbook is fair game for the exams. (This is what he told me when I asked for some guidance). Furthermore, I got a 64% on the midterm exam, and he attached a congratulatory note to my grade saying I had received the highest score. Clearly something is wrong if the highest grade on a midterm is a D. However he didn't feel that way. Really, he doesn't do any teaching. He expects us to learn entirely from a textbook.

    Course highlights:

Most of the concepts covered were those that you learned in biology classes in high school. Some were explored a little more in depth. Covers cells, photosynthesis, biochemistry, mitosis/meiosis, etc.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

If you want to do well on the exams, you HAVE to read the textbook - and take the practice quizzes. Some of the test questions were included in these quizzes. The labs and discussions are not difficult and can be great grade boosters. If you need to get in contact with him, do not use the Blackboard discussion board set up to do so. He will not respond promptly. You must email him if you want a response.
