    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This course is a requirement for science majors, but it is a difficult course. Mr. Yee taught the course very well and was very considerate when it came to explaining topic in further detail. SI sessions helped a lot too. Lecture and lab are pretty much linked, so anything discussed in lecture was reiterated in lab.

    Course highlights:

Everything you learn in this class is just an expansion from what you previously learned. Meaning, all the stuff you learned in previous chemistry courses come into play here and you learn how they apply to organic chemistry.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Make sure you form some sort of study group or attend SI sessions. They really helped out a lot. Also make sure to go through the old tests and quizzes that Mr. Yee posts on the website because he usually puts the same questions on the tests and quizzes given in class. If you are having trouble with a topic don't be afraid to ask for help.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

It is a great course to develop critical thinking skills as well as to get familiar with the properties of the elements on the periodic table that are found in living organisms such as animals and plants.

    Course highlights:

Reactivity and principles of organic molecules with other organic molecules were covered on the course. I learned to draw curved arrows to show chemical reactions and the consequences of such acts of violence between atoms. What I liked the most, though, was how to interpret data obtained from machinery such as IR spectrum which identifies the types of bonds present in a molecule.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Try to understand the principles, which are the most essential and fundamental base to understanding the course as a whole. Once you feel comfortable with the principles, practice as much as you can the chemical reactions shown on the book and try to predict without looking at the answer. Don't be afraid to make mistakes! Making mistakes was the most helpful for me because it helped me exclude what I should NOT be doing especially during examinations.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This material can be difficult but Mr. Yee makes the material fun and easy to learn.

    Course highlights:

Besides learning about organic chemistry I found a passion for science.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Form study groups because active learning and teaching really helps. Don't procrastinate, make sure to keep up with the material.
