Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would definitely recommend this course because Mrs. Honey is a fabulous teacher. She will prepare you not only for the AP Exam, but she will prepare you to be a college student. Every class period, she had something productive planned - whether it was analyzing primary sources (yes, even songs!), watching a well-done documentary or conducting seminars. She treats all of her students like young adults and holds us accountable for doing our work. Homework was tough as it took quite a bit of time every night, but as Mrs. Honey says, it's all in preparation for the AP Exam. There's not a moment wasted in that class - EVER.

    Course highlights:

For me, the highlights of APUSH were the Feminist Movement and the Civil Rights Movement. We spent weeks analyzing gender roles in America, looking at advertisements, videos, and books that detailed how women were marginalized throughout history. Although things haven't changed much even today, the movement definitely sparked real change and is the driving force behind equal pay and equality in general. For the Civil Rights Movement, we really delved into the African American perspective during the most degrading times of slavery, segregation and lynching to name a few aspects of their plight. It was heartbreaking, and it always is when I think back on it, and it was not a highlight of our American past. What I learned from these two movements is the power of the people when we come together. From the American Revolution onward, we made our opinions heard, and it has been effective.

    Advice for students:

My advice to students considering this course is to never, ever procrastinate. I know that's difficult, but when Mrs. Honey gives you a due date that isn't the next day, that means it will take more than a day to complete and do well on it. You will get more out of the assignments if you put effort into them, especially because they are a main source when reviewing for the exam. Also, speak up during class! Mrs. Honey acknowledges and validates all opinions, and will greatly appreciate you showing that you care about the material and are willing to share your thoughts to the class. And if you are used to talking in class, the seminars will come easy to you. Make sure you prepare for those seminars, and any other assignment that involves presenting. All in all, you will get what you put into it. If you aren't willing to do the work, you will find yourself in a very stressful situation come the AP test.
