Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would absolutely recommend this course. It's a wonderful learning experience and it is extremely interesting. It is very fast paced but that just gets you prepared for college classes. I feel confident everyday in that class because I know I've been taught well and I know I completely grasped the content. My teacher utilizes the Socratic method of teaching and it is the best teaching still in my opinion. Leaving this course I know for a fact I will pass the AP exam and receive my college credits.

    Course highlights:

I have learned amazing work ethic and time management. We receive a different chapter and time period every week and we have to be prepared to have a rigorous discussion on everything in the chapter. This work load has taught me that I can't play around and put stuff off till the last minute, or else I'm going to go to class and not know what's going on at all. We also receive a thing called a short answer at the beginning of each week. Those short answers have taught me how to analyze text. We have to analyze past what's written, we have to understand the underlying message of each excerpt or topic we get. Another great thing I've learned is that history isn't just black and white. Reviewing certain events in U.S history has shown me that everything has an intense background, and actions of certain people have actually saved the U.S and the world from utter destruction and made us what we are today. Last and best highlight of this course was being taught to appreciate history. Every week we have music Monday, our teacher picks a historic song and we sing it and dissect it afterwards. Singing these songs and then fully understanding them gave me a new look on its importance and how it shaped the time period it was created in. After this course I will never simply hear a historic and not try to understand why the artist wrote the lyrics they sung.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

All you need to succeed is dedication. You have to be dedicated to learning what happen in the Tet offensive or what happen in Tonkin Gulf resolution or whatever your time period is for the week. I set aside 2 hours each day to sit down and read my chapter and write notes. That helps me do great in class. Since the beginning of class I have received a 100 just about each week in participation because I study so hard. I study for our long essays and for our regular discussions extremely hard and I do great each time. Studying habits are key. Utilize EVERY resource your teacher gives. Whether it be a hand out or a website to visit, use it. They are giving you that resource to help you out. Also reading is very important in this course. If you don't read, it's over. Read and take notes and you will be set for AP U.S History.
