    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The organic chemistry series is much more interesting than general chemistry.

    Course highlights:

The reaction mechanisms for substitution and elimination were tricky but key for succeeding in lab.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Purchase the "Organic Chemistry as a Second Language" book, it will save you in this class.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The material in organic chemistry is fairly complex, but it explains molecules and chemicals that have been mentioned in other courses, such as biology, far more in depth. This course clears up why different structures of one molecule can make a difference in terms of reactivity or stability. This information is helpful to know when handling various chemicals in the lab.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of this course were being required to build molecular models of molecules and taught how to change their structures. Building models was especially engaging for me since it is a visual that allows me to see what is changing in a molecular structure. I learned that different structures of the same molecule or chemical compound emit different energies and the lowest energy is more favorable in any reaction due to stability.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Practice, practice, practice! The practice problems from the textbook or homework that are either required or suggested by the professor in the course will definitely prepare you for the exam and most importantly, help you better understand how to identify, calculate, or explain different concepts in organic chemistry. Practice building molecular models on your spare time and play around with them so that you can visually see what happens when you manipulate the structures.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Essential organic chemistry course, particularly important for pharmds

    Course highlights:

How molecules were composed on a higher level than in basic chemsitry

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Keep up on the material to be ready for the exams.
