Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This is a situation wherein the teacher truly makes all of their students feel as though they are capable of learning the information. If a student is in the IB program, often times that will choose IB history as one of their higher level course in order to meet their diploma requirements. Even so, I am pleased that I took IB American History, partly due to the fact that I had taken the AP equivalent the year before, thus could walk in with a good foundation, and the way the course is fragmented is less in chronological order and more in terms of essential ideas that span across eras, which made more sense for the final examination and for my personal learning.

    Course highlights:

Most of the highlights form this class were from interactions with the teacher. For example, at the end of the year, since this is a senior course, Mr. Mackay created a senior banquet, wherein he gave each student heartfelt and hilarious awards based on his memories with us over the course of the year. It made me recognize how much he cared for each of his students.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

It is important to walk into this course with a solid foundation. When you go into either IB Contemporary History course, it is assumed that in the two years prior, you have taken some higher level version of both European and American history, generally of the AP variety. That being said, it is not essential, as the instructors at this school work their best to familiarize their students with the information as though it were new. Even so, familiarizing oneself with the course material prior to the course will definitely give one an advantage.

    Pretty easy, overall.

    Course Overview:

The teacher is great, and makes history fun. The work is not very difficult if you put any effort into it at all.

    Course highlights:

I was able to learn history without even really realizing I was learning anything at all. The class was not at all too much work to handle and it was very easy to enjoy it at least a little bit.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Read the chapters from the book assigned to you. It will help you pass the quizzes and do well in the class, and even if you think you know everything the book is talking about, you might just learn something important that you didn't know before.
