Not too easy. Not too difficult.
Course Overview:
Would recommend anything with Mr. Doherty as the teacher, really. Took Calc BC fall 2016 and spring 2017, took Calc AB with him the year before. He goes over concepts multiple times so he drills it in, explains things well, and most importantly, he truly cares about his students, and you can go to him and get help and he'll welcome you.
Course highlights:
Lots of Calc, everything on the AP exam. Towards the end, because the students were a mix of AP and IB, he had to split the class to cover the different curricula of the programs.
Hours per week:
3-5 hours
Advice for students:
Study throughout the year, don't cram all at once. And don't wait until the end to try to ask him to re-teach everything...it's not nice, and he hates students who do that.
This class was tough.
Course Overview:
I would recommend it because Mr. Doherty has the greatest appreciation for calculus, and mathematics in general, that I have ever seen. And he is always willing to help those who do not quite understand a concept. You never feel afraid to ask questions in his class because he takes time to develop a clear answer to clear up confusion. I also like the structure of his class. He's straightforward, does not overload you with homework, and gives tests at appropriate times.
Course highlights:
Mr. Doherty focused a lot on preparing us for the AP Calculus exam. He made sure we covered every unit that would be on the test and my favorite part of the course personally was derivatives and integrals. After learning from Mr. Doherty, I felt so well acquainted with derivatives and integrals and I had never felt so engaged in math class before.
Hours per week:
3-5 hours
Advice for students:
Always do the homework! The homework will help you practice what you learn in class, and it's necessary to do it because it helps you retain the information, prepare for the test, and fully understand concepts for the AP exam. Also, pay attention in class. Stay engaged because it is truly a great course and you should try and appreciate everything Mr. Doherty has to offer.
This class was tough.
Course Overview:
Doherty is a great teacher, easy to approach, very understanding, and very patient.
Course highlights:
Highlights were the quotes of the day! I learned Calculus!!
Hours per week:
9-11 hours
Advice for students:
Study and do your homework! Go to class, pay attention, and ask questions.
