    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The course was one of the most fulfilling I have ever taken. I learned many things from basic Java programming to sophisticated sorting and searching algorithms. This class is for anyone who wants to get into the software development industry. To me computer science is way beyond an elective but a subject of its own combining aspects of logic, science, and math.

    Course highlights:

The highlight of the class was my trip to FIU for the programming competition. In that competition I was finally able to utilize the skills I learned to solve complex programming and mathematical problems with the help of my team. This built teamwork and also improved my logical and programming skills.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

For AP Computer Science I found having a strong background in math is important as much of the work in the course is related to advanced algebra and logic. Although you don't necessarily need prior knowledge in programming I found that it helped me a lot and allowed me to pass the class with an A and pass the AP exam. The last piece of advice and the most important is to keep in touch with your instructor as he or she can answer any questions you need to be clarified.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The course was one of the most fulfilling I have ever taken. I learned many things from basic Java programming to sophisticated sorting and searching algorithms. While the online experience was very important the highlight of the class was my trip to FIU for the programming competition. I arrived to meet my five other team members as well as my computer science teacher who happed to be a FIU alumni. In that competition I was finally able to solve complex programming and mathematical problems with the help of my team. After several hours of programming the competition was finally over. Despite my team and I not winning we still got to use our skills to practical use and meet the head of a big software company here in Florida. To me computer science is way beyond an elective but a subject of its own combining aspects of logic, science, and math.

    Course highlights:

The highlight of the course was the programming competition hosted at FIU in which I finally got to use all of the skills I learned during the course as well as learning to work and solve problems as a team.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

AP computer science is a course which emphasizes on math and logic. Although you don't necessarily need a background in programming I found that it helped a lot and was able to pass the first half quickly with an A and the second half with a high B. Keeping in touch with your teach is also important as he or she can clarify any questions you may have.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

AP Computer Science was a great start in my dreams of being a programmer. I never knew how to begin with programming or how to take the first steps. This course cleared the way. Now that I have learned the fundamentals, I can now apply my skills to other programming languages and advance my knowledge with Java.

    Course highlights:

I learned the basic principle‚Äč of programming, the specific study was for Java.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Time. Make sure you have the time to meet the demand. I gave over ten hours a week to this course to ensure I fully understood all my work and was able to apply the principle outside my assignments.
