Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

This course is highly educative and easy to earn good grades if one pay attention to the lectures and attends the SI help sessions along with performing the labs experiments. There are many resources such as the free tutors who helps with homework problems and explains the difficult topics of the course.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of this course were periodic table of elements, atoms and compounds, naming atoms and compound, stoichiometry, coffee cup / bomb calorimeter, heat, works, kinetic energy, Hess's law, isotopes, chemical bonding, molecular geometry, etc. I learned a lot about the topics listed above.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

I would recommend for students to attend every lecture and lab because there are several opportunities to earn points in both lectures and lab. Some professor also drops a few lowest score for home works and lab experiments based on attendance. I would also recommend to use the resources provided by the university such as SI help sessions and free tutoring.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The professor is great. No matter the homework, Dr. Gelder is always willing to help during office hours or via email. He explains the content thoroughly while posting video lectures online for students to review in case of a missed class.

    Course highlights:

The highlights included learning various chemistry material found in each CHEM1314 course. This course is a generic freshman level course. Concepts learned ranged from chemical formulas to orbitals and all in between.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Office hours were incredibly beneficial. I got to know Dr. Gelder and it helped tremendously. The review sessions held were also helpful. Going to office hours and review sessions help as well as getting to know Dr. Gelder. He appreciates students who work hard.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Really fun teacher and its a intro to chem class so get you ready for other science.

    Course highlights:

My highlight of this course was probably the SI sessions they have them everyday smaller version of the class so you can understand the work better and i learned a lot about chemicals.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Study, Study, Study! It is so important and don't miss a class because you will fall behind. I recommend taking tutoring atleast once or twice a week.
