    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

The course was SOC301 but it was entitled "Social Problems". It was the toughest online class I have taken due to the course materials, however the professor believes in engaging his students, so what seemed like a daunting task (writing discussions-up to 4 per week) while reviewing the syllabus, turned out to be encouraging and even enjoyable.

    Course highlights:

The course highlighted social problems within the US such as inequality in Capitalism; inequality as it relates to race, gender, education and health care; problems with the family; crime; and problems with the environment. I learned a great deal about capitalism and how it relates to the classic middle class family—often destroying the family unit and/or our family and financial values as we are bombarded with over 3,000 advertisements a day (to which some of us have come to accept as the norm until it is pointed out).

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

I would advise any student taking this course to take it seriously; and not just to meet minimum requirements. This course, though online and at a junior college, is not like traffic school where you put in your time and pass at the end of the day. There were 3 required discussion posts weekly, one large individual post semi-weekly, required chapters, additional readings, videos and full movies to watch in order to prepare for weekly quizzes. The midterm and final were timed written essays. I would say take it seriously if you are looking for a good grade.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I love the human mind and the way no two people think, feel, see, touch, comprehend, or analyze the same way. You can understand or relate but no two people are the same. To study the mind is like to understand life.

    Course highlights:

Knowledge and a deeper understanding the human mind and the way we process day to day life and human interaction with others.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Study, listen, pay attention to everything, and leave all opinions and pre-conceived judgments at the door.
