Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Professor Burns is an amazing teacher who utilized her knowledge onto others. Throughout the semester, she aided her students with power points, camtasias and other outside sources and videos so that we not only learned the material, but retained it.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of the spring course was genetics and DNA and its origins, functions, and purpose. The genetic makeup was also discussed. For genetics, you learned what PCRs are, which amplify the genes, restriction, enzymes, electrophoresis, sister chromatids, mitosis meiosis, chromosomes, and more. For DNA, its more in depth, it is not just that DNA is a double helix with a sequence of AGTC, there is much more involved such as the genetic makeup of DNA.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Study, a lot. Go through the powerpoint; read the chapters in the textbook and study the PBLs. There are tricky questions on the test at times but overall you will love the course but you have the put the work and effort in.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course to anyone who is interested in majoring in Biology or even if they only have a passion of Biology. Not only was the course interesting but, the professor is amazing and makes class enjoyable. Learning the material doesn't seem like school work but something you want to know.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of this course were creating a foundation for everything that we will learn in the future. We were able acquire the knowledge and skills to learn how it is best for us to learn and how to study. Throughout this course we learned about cellular communication, viruses, evolution and much more. The topics were very interesting and class was enjoyable to go to.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

To students considering this course, I would tell them to study often and review notes on a daily basis. In doing so, you will know the material like the back of your hand and be prepared for every test that is given. I would also tell incoming students that they should not only take notes in class but listen to the lectures over again and use the study mate modules that are provided to you. They are a life saver and will definitely help you throughout this course.
