Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

It is required for most science majors and this professor does a good job at explaining the material thoroughly, but still finishing all required material in time for the final exam. He is very understanding and is always happy to help his students whenever he is available. He also is more than willing to welcome new members to his research team.

    Course highlights:

The obvious: preparation for organic chemistry 2 and satisfies the requirement for most medical-related degrees. It also provides a deeper understanding for the "why" behind most organic reactions.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Read the chapter before you get to class because then the class is there to just enforce concepts you understand or clear up questions you had while reading the chapter. Ask Dr. Ellis for help whenever you need it because it does help before having an exam. Use online resources when available and do any and all extra credit, because it will pay off in the end. Most of the open-ended questions on the exam come straight from his quizzes, so make sure you keep and study those. Study groups can help as long as you stay on track; having different perspectives help understand the material.

    | No strong feelings either way.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This is a very difficult course so be sure you are taking it during a semester when you can spend ample amounts of time studying and going to office bourse.

    Course highlights:

I learned a lot about organic compounds and the mechanisms in which they are formed.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Study, study, study! I can't quite say this enough. Also pay attention and don't be afraid to ask questions. Also, go to class. That was one of my biggest lessons I learned and I went everyday for organic II.
