Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

It's a great learning experience, and Mr. Ficke is an awesome teacher, but it is difficult to get an A. If you want to improve your writing and analyzing skill and are prepared to put in some effort to do so, I would definately recommend this class. However, don't expect it to be an easy A.

    Course highlights:

The class focused on rhetorical analysis. We learned how to recognize strategies used by writers to persuade or convince their audience to believe them. We learned how to write neat, structured essays that provided all the necessary information and nothing more. However, the focus was directed more at reading and analyzing than writing.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

Most points are easy to get. Read the given articles and exerpts and take notes on them. Participate in class discussions. The difficult part is the essays. My teacher graded like a college professor, which makes sense as it's a college level course. Many students in my class got frustrated with their essay grades because they had been given all A's in the past. Don't expect to be coddled.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I'd recommend this to any student looking to prepare themselves for college, the teacher pushes the student to work extremely hard and grades in a difficult manner so the student is pressed to try their best on every assignment, while also encouraging students to come talk to him about any issue they are having with the class or content if they need it.

    Course highlights:

The highlight of this course was the teacher, he makes the class extremely difficult while having an enjoyable personality to make the class less stressful.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Annotate everything you read thoroughly as it makes the time spent in class extremely easy afterwards.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I recommend it because this course improved my writing abilities like no other English course ever had. Mr. Ficke is one of the best teachers one could ask for.

    Course highlights:

In this course we had to learn aspects of American literature while also learning how to write well enough to pass the AP language and composition test. I learned how to write with purpose and thought.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Be patient and work hard. Definitely ask Mr. Ficke any question you have.
