Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course because it is taught by a fantastic teacher and increases your knowledge of the world of language and composition! It's very interesting and fun.

    Course highlights:

I learned how to annotate passages to help eliminate wrong answers on multiple choice tests, how to write essays in detail, how to make essays better by using figurative language, etc.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

You need to pay attention in class in order to succeed. You also need to be able to stay up and go over the essay writing tips so that the next essay your write will be even better!

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would definitely recommend this course. I had the pleasure of having Mr. Gilken as my teacher two years in a row (Junior year to senior year). It was a great class. I don't like going to class early in the mornings but his class was worth it. There's not a better person that can teach you and make you laugh as much as him. He makes learning fun so you're getting the best of both worlds.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of this course had to be all the jokes Mr. Gilken would crack in class. He is extremely funny. You're going to be bored out of your mind when reading these long required books for AP Lang. I learn so much from being in his class. My writing skills have gotten so much better. Now I can write a 5 paragraph essay with ease. He shows you the way to write an essay in a short amount of time and not have a breakdown. This is so helpful because the AP exams are timed. I have also gotten better at doing the multiple choice section of the AP test. Being able to cross out an obvious wrong answer increases the chances of getting the right answer. What I learned from this AP class helped me in my other AP classes that I took while in high school.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

I just want every student that is reading to know that you will do just fine in AP Lang. You are very smart. I know this because you have made a smart decision by considering to take on a college level class. In each AP class I've taken, I learned that if I applied myself hard enough and paid attention, the class was so much easiser. Stressing will not help. Eat, study and sleep. Keep repeating this pattern and you will be very successful. So learn how to deal with stress and do some yoga. You have a great journey ahead. I'll be rooting for you!

    Advice for students:

Do the essays on time, read all handouts, watch all videos, and do all extra credit assignments.
