    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

It's a really difficult course, especially if you take it online. It can be very time consuming, but you get a really well-developed understanding of genetics because you're basically forced to learn the chapters on a weekly basis. There's really no breaks and there's only one test at the end of the semester.

    Course highlights:

One of the best things about this course were the discussion posts that you were required to write on a weekly basis. Each week there are two questions that you are required to freely answer and it really helped the learning process. One of the best chapters in this course was the molecular basis of protein synthesis. It's really interesting how different proteins are encoded and work together to create different proteins, which is what functions the cell.

    Hours per week:

    12+ hours

    Advice for students:

If you're in the online class, be sure to read and know all the terms, then watch the videos and animations before you start anything else in the class. The hardest things are the progress tests and be sure to have time to review the two quizzes before to prepare for the progress test.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I recommend this professor, certainly over Sandstrom. Parchman genuinely cares about his students and will try to help you succeed. There are a lot of extra credit opportunities and he tells you what to study for exams.

    Course highlights:

Central dogma. Pedigrees. Patterns of inheritance. Probability. Mitosis and meiosis.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Make sure you understand probability inside and out, it is a recurring theme in the class. Feel comfortable with the calculations and know how to calculate probability from pedigrees and pungent squares.
