Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

The course was focused on "nerd culture" as a theme for teaching writing skills. Each English 102 course has a theme to engage the students in the learning process. Ms. Spires inspired the students with shared experiences and similar tastes in movies, books, and games. Her style made the class enjoyable to attend.

    Course highlights:

Because the focus included gaming, comic books, and movies I was interested in our discussions and learn writing techniques. I was engaged in the topic and that made learning easier. I believe it improved my writing abilities.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Choose the 102 course with a topic that appeals to you. Do not just pick it based on a time slot.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course with this specific professor because I think Professor Surges is extremely good at her job. She is kind, patient, and makes the material in English 102 very easy to understand.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of this course were the essays we wrote. I felt as though I learned a lot when it comes to my writing and I was able to see what pieces of my writings needed fixing and what I did well when it came to writing essays.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

The advice I would give students considering this course is to simply make sure they do not procrastinate. That is for any class in college, you want to make sure you complete assignments when they're due and not try and do it at the last minute.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course not only because English 102 is a requirement, but because you have the opportunity to do research. It also teaches you how to write and do research. As well as who in the library is their to help you out, what sources to use, and how to find them. It gives you the opportunity to ask for help and to see if you would be interested in conducting research while you are an undergraduate.

    Course highlights:

I enjoyed this course because our theme is on disability. I had the opportunity to be part of discussions in which we talked about popular cultural attitudes toward disability, the legal polices for people with disabilities and disability in language literature. All the while, having the opportunity to do my research on a topic having to do with disability and continuing to learn about the topic was by far the greatest highlight of this course.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

The advice I would give to a student considering taking this course would be to do the readings because they will give you the general understanding about the theme which will really be helpful toward your research. In this way, you chose a topic that you are interested in and have the knowledge that can help you identify sources that will make your research stronger.
