Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this class because if you are trying to do something in the medical field this class would be a great start. I have been in the medical program since freshman year and I would say I have learned a lot of things about medical I never known before.

    Course highlights:

There are many things I have learned from taking this course. From taking this course I gained information on how to do correct hand washing when working in a hospital and learning how to put on gloves, mask, goggles, and the gown in the correct order. My favorite thing we have done so far was learning how to do vital signs on a patient. Vital signs are the pulse rate, respiration rate, temperature, and blood pressure of someone. It was more fun when you practice it on another person.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

If you want to take this course some advice I would give you is to always be on top of your work and to never procrastinate. If you miss a day in class you are almost literally almost missing a whole lesson. Don’t ever turn in your work late because you will just get a zero on it. When we have a test coming up she sometimes gives us a straight forward study guide but we have to fill it out. If you study that you will most likely get 100 on your test.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This course helped me understand so much about the medical field. With it's hands-on nature and it's help for the community, this course will surely be something you will be proud of joining. Through the Lake Gibson High School Academy of Health, I was able to garner 3 industry certifications: Certified Medical Administrative Assistant, Phlebotomy Technician, and Electrocardiogram Technician. Mrs. Samantha Thompson or Mrs. Lisa Harboe will help you through every step of the way. This academy is one of the best things I decided to do in high school.

    Course highlights:

The biggest highlight of this course was when we volunteered at our local assisted living facility for our required group clinical hours. We also volunteered at the facility of our choosing for our individual clinical hours (in which I decided to volunteer at CORA Rehabilitation Clinics). This allowed us to put the skills we obtained to use and help us understand what it's like to be in the medical field. I ended up receiving an award alongside a select few of my peers for serving the highest amounts of group and individual hours. I learned so much through the volunteer work. But not so much about the medical field, but about myself. I learned that if I put my mind to it, I can accomplish anything.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

This course is not easy. It is intense and rigorous. But if you're up for the challenge and you don't give up too easily unlike some of the students in the beginning, a huge payoff awaits you. Stick to it, study hard, be organized, don't procrastinate, and HAVE FUN! This course is a little tough but you won't even recognize it because of how much fun you're having. Also, join HOSA (Health OccupationS Students of America). It's a lot of fun and it will help you enormously.
