    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this class because even though it is difficult, it is more than worth it. You are surrounded by some of the smartest kids in your class while it is an AP class and this pushes you to do your best, especially if you are competitive. In this class, we read some of the best classical and modern books that help you better understand the realistic difficulties people went through in the past, such as the farming issues in "Grapes of Wrath." Also, this class interacted with another class I was taking at the same time, AP United States History, while we were reading "The Great Gatsby," we were also learning about the roaring '20s and could refer to the book in the essays we wrote in US History.

    Course highlights:

Although this class took a lot of work, that was actually one of its brightest highlights. This class made me feel intelligent and if you decided not to do your work for even a day or two, you would fall terribly behind so that was one motivation to stay on top of your work. This class helped me gain responsibility as well as insight on other time periods, important people, and reading skills. This class also thoroughly improved my writing skills as we wrote an essay for every book we read on top of the essays given in, and outside of, class. Our teacher helped us improve on our weak points and and work out our strong points as we were given feed back from both him and other students when we did peer-grading sessions.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

To succeed in this course, you need to be ready to be pushed, and to be tired. You must be prepared to spend an unpleasant amount of time studying, writing, and reading; but it is more than worth it. Coming out of the class, I know that I can be pushed past my limit to be the best I can be. Since it is an AP class, it prepares you for college classes which is a good side step before actually graduating and going to college.
