Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I have really enjoyed learning about the foundations of biology. Dr. Kothmann is funny and makes sure to highlight what we need to know for exams.

    Course highlights:

It was nice to really build a foundation in the biological sciences. I enjoyed learning about DNA and protein structures.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

If you are not a bio or pre-health major, you will probably have a hard time with it. It's important to actually enjoy learning about the material.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would highly recommend this course asa a general education course for the area 5 requirement because it is a class that can be used as a prerequisite for many higher level science classes, should you decide to take your major in that direction. Professor Connaughton is great! I usually don't like hard sciences that much, and often struggle with them, but Connaughton made the class easy to understand, and even fun! It was probably one of my favorite classes at AU.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of the course for me were the current events we had to do throughout the semester. They connected topics that we had learned about in class to ongoing articles in the media. We then had class discussions about the opposing sides of the events. I thought it was a great way to connect the subject to our world, and really get you thinking about all the considerations that have to go into scientific exploration on social, as well as scientific, levels.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

I would advise students to keep in mind that the lab section corresponding with this course is somewhat worthless. You really won't learn a lot, and it will be a complete waste of time, but it's the same with all lab sections at AU to be completely honest. So basically the only way to make the lab a little less terrible is to have a good lecture professor like Professor Connaughton.
