    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

Taking an AP course in your high school career is on of the best things you can do for yourself. AP English Language and Composition truly excelled my skills and has prepared my for college more than any other class I have taken. Not only has it helped my writing but it taught me how to debate respectfully, there were days when we would discuss our readings or current events and our teacher did such a great job leading us in the right direction and demonstrating how to accept another's ideas but challenge them at the same time.

    Course highlights:

The highlights of the course for me were the two book review essays we wrote, the first was non fiction and the second was fiction. Mrs. Calkin gave us a lot of freedom when choosing a book and this made me enjoy reading and writing because it was about something I cared about. I learned how to properly read and analyze a text source which will help me in my college and professional career.

    Hours per week:

    9-11 hours

    Advice for students:

Ask for help. There is no need to be afraid to reach out and ask a question, things like learning how to cite in APA is difficult and it is in a students best interest to ask a question so they know for the future. Also avoid procrastination, it is difficult to not procrastinate but it is important for you grade that you do your best to put in the hours.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course because it helps students really understand a college level English class and push themselves to go outside of their limits. If a student does not enjoy English I would not recommend this course.

    Course highlights:

I learned how to timely write papers with enough information and enough commentary to succeed in my writing and I also learned how to analyze a book or article while I am reading it so that I can understand the information quickly. We read many articles, poems and books and knowing how to analyze them was very important for the assignment.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

When taking this class, it is very important to do your work, read the material and ask questions. Do not be too embarrassed to ask questions, Mrs. Calkin is always willing to explain something you understand and will help with things you are struggling with. When vocab is assigned think of the word as more than just a definition so that you really understand how the word is used.
