Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

The teacher is super young so it is extremely easy to communicate with him. The class itself is very organized and structured. Although there us a lot of information to cover, taking this course will no doubt strengthen one's critical thinking skills.

    Course highlights:

In this course, we conducted a series of lab experiments, from transforming DNA in bacteria to measuring cellular respiration in peas. By taking this class, I was able to learn more about how humans work the way we do.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

The class is difficult if you don't pay attention during class time. However, it is also very important as it prepares you for a biology major.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

Ap Biology under Mr. Austin is very fun and he does a great job of providing the material and extra resources for his students to succeed. Although this is his first year teaching this course he has created powerpoints and worksheets that have helped me prepare for his tests. I rarely have to read the textbooks as everything that I need to succeed in his class and pass the AP test is on the powerpoints he has provided which can be accessed at anytime in his website. The class environment is very friendly. Everyone knows each other. Mr. Austin tries to welcome every student and makes an effort to get to know them.

    Course highlights:

Being in AP Biology has helped me greatly expand my knowledge on what creates life and how the human body and other cells function together in order for us to survive. I have learned about water and how it is essential to life. I have learned about photosynthesis and cellular respiration and how that is very important as it allows us to gain energy from the food we eat. At this moment we are learning about DNA and how the body replicates it and regulates gene expression in different types of cells.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

In order to succeed in this class, student must ensure that they put some time everyday into looking over the notes he has provided. In addition, they should also watch the videos that he links with his notes on his website. One thing that has helped me succeed before a big test is the study guides that he offers to his students. I recommend looking over the study guide as everything that will be on the test is on the study guide. If you can answer all the questions on the study guide then you can get an A on the test.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

AP Biology has greatly my love for the complex subject. From the extensive lectures to hands on labs, I have learned the great importance of biology. While the material may seem challenging at times, I find the lectures to be extremely fascinating as I learn what internal mechanisms allow for life to occur.

    Course highlights:

Personally, I felt that the hands-on-labs are the highlight of AP Biology. I found it very rewarding to attend lectures then practice what we learned in a lab. For example, my AP biology class recently finished lectures on cellular respiration and photosynthesis, then we were instructed to design formal experiments that could test either of the topics. I feel that the labs that often follow the lectures allow student stop demonstrate their knowledge, while strengthening comprehension of the topics.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

My advice I would give students is to STUDY! AP Biology is not an easy class. I found it crucial that every night I went home and read over my notes in hopes to strengthen my understanding of what was discussed in class. Also, if you don't understand something, ask questions! Biology tends to build off of previous knowledge, so if you don't understand a topic, it is crucial you seek help or ask questions because the topic does not go away.
