Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend this course because Mr. Heid is an outstanding teacher who wants the best for his students and wants to see them succeed. He's one to fully explain the concept so his students know and understand what they are doing. He truly is a role model and is always helping you when you need it. He applies things so it fits for all different types of learners. Whether that is you being a visual, or a verbal, he always is finding ways and allows his students to pass his class especially with this being year round.

    Course highlights:

Highlights of this course so far is taking derivatives. Derivatives is something you build off from all throughout Calculus and is basically the stepping stones of it. Once you've got that down, be prepared to keep building off from them and add all sorts of things in there. Things I learned would be derivatives and how to take them. As well as using my trig functions and incorporating those into equations and such things.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

Advice I would give to have a successful year in AP Calculus would be that, if you aren't going to apply yourself and take the time to ask questions and work outside of class, you are going to struggle and not set yourself up for succession. You chose the class and are going to pay the price by doing the work. Don't give up when things are tough, work through it and eventually you'll get it. Memorizing and regurgitating isn't going to do you any good in this class. You've got to find a way for things to stick and if it doesn't, you're going to have to pay the price for it.

    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

I would recommend to take AP Calculus because I believe that it really prepares you for college. It challenges you everyday and gives you something to think about. This course prepares you for college style courses so that one day when you go to college you will already be ahead of everybody else. Another big bonus is that if you take this course and pass the AP test you can test out of Calculus 1 in college which will save you a lot of money in the future.

    Course highlights:

I believe that the main highlight of this course was learning about derivatives. I think derivatives changed my whole outlook on the math world. Being able to tell the instantaneous rate of change of something at any given point on a graph was very interesting to me. Learning about the people who founded Calculus was definitely a highlight for me as well. I think it is amazing that these people could figure out this kind of math back then with no electronics or gadgets like we have now.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

My advice for every student considering this course is to take it. From taking this course I have learned to never back down from a challenge. This course requires you to problem solve and really use your brain. This course makes you step out of your comfort zone, it rattles you up and it will make you stressed out at times. But in the end it is completely worth it. AP Calculus has made me feel comfortable being uncomfortable. One of the best moments was at the beginning when I did not know something and I thought it was completely impossible only to be able to work through it and master it by the end of the course. It is an indescribable feeling of accomplishment.
