    This class was tough.

    Course Overview:

This course involved thinking out of the box as my teacher required us to design our own experiments with no guidance based upon what we learned. We were presented with a series of challenges we had to solve with a scientific mindset. This class prepared us for real world careers from physics to mechanical to civil engineering.

    Course highlights:

Labs are what make this course unique in every aspect. With no directions or guidelines, we had to utilize the materials that we had in class to construct devices that performed a certain task. For example, one of our labs involved constructing a prototype that would help measure the velocity of water coming out of a hole at a certain altitude. We had to take care of different variables such as trajectory, height, and distance in order to minimize error. From labs, we learned how mechanical engineers and physicists have to take into account both mathematical and design features to complete their tasks. Another highlight of this course involved the dynamic of the lectures. Mr. Jones would usually set up experiments that went alongside his lectures to illustrate the topics. For example, he created his own diffraction with water when he was teaching the class about diffraction of waves. We played with circuits and designed them on the computer to understand how they work during the unit on currents and electricity. Being in this class for my senior year enriched my academic experience by giving me a hands-on experience in different engineering careers while also giving me in-depth knowledge of physics.

    Hours per week:

    3-5 hours

    Advice for students:

This course is unlike any other traditional classroom course. It involves theoretical and conceptual thinking. The class is fast-paced as it is an AP class. One needs to not only be able to understand and explain the concept but also be able to construct an experiment to show that they can both understand and explain it. To succeed in this course, it is essential to research topics related with the course material and do physics-related experiments to enhance one's knowledge within the field. Doing these experiments can make the material learned in class much easier to comprehend. Since this is an AP course, taking AP practice tests to prepare for his quizzes and tests can be beneficial. Create study groups to refine one's knowledge or reinforce missing gaps. Finally, ask the teacher for help, and make sure to understand every detail and experiment that the topic pertains to.

Not too easy. Not too difficult.

    Course Overview:

I loved the class because second semester of the class is all about the human body. It is like gaining an insight into how miraculous that your body functions every single day without you even thinking about. Every part of the course is so applicable to our daily lives, especially when it comes to maintaining our health.

    Course highlights:

My favorite part of the course is the genetics portion. I learned how the very small amount of DNA in one cell's nucleus plays into every function of our body. It is easy to understand and is the basis for much of the AP exam.

    Hours per week:

    6-8 hours

    Advice for students:

It is incredibly important to take notes and read every chapter of the textbook. The teacher also has plenty of videos up on youtube which are incredibly useful for last minute studying or understanding the concepts.
